The 2024 Refresher Exam is due by Sunday, November 24th at 11:59 PM. You can submit your answers by clicking here.
As in years past there will be Exam Review Sessions and they will be on November 11, 13, 20 and 22 at 7pm. Zoom links will be sent out in advance of each session.
It is recommended that each official reach out to their partners no later than Sunday of the week that you are scheduled to work together to confirm that you are aware of the game, location and time that you are scheduled to work together. This is especially important when working with newer officials who may need help with directions and any special information about the schools we are working at (where to change, etc…). You should also exchange phone numbers in case you need to communicate during the day of the game for any reason.
All officials that are working this season must complete the MIAA Registration and (if necessary) Background Check protocol in order to be listed as an active official with our assignor. To begin the process, go to www.miaa.net and click on the link on the right hand side of the page for ArbiterSports. The cost for the initial background check is $45 for the first sport, which also covers your MIAA registration. Any additional sports are $10 each, and the fee must be paid before the checks can be completed. NOTE: The background checks need to be completed every three (3) years, so if you have completed it for any sport in the last two (2) years then all you will be required to pay is $10 to register with the MIAA for the year.
Once again this year, Board 28 officials will be required to take the NFHS Concussion Course titled “Concussions in Sports – What You Need To Know” prior to being able to officiate during the season, and completed course certificates must be turned into Secretary Bowler. The course is offered for free on the NFHS website at http://nfhslearn.com/?courseID=15000.
Each member of Board 28 is strongly urged to contribute to the Casey Scholarship fund by donating at least $50.00 and/or soliciting at least $50.00 worth of sponsors for the program at the Annual All-Star Games. We are also planning other fundraising activities again this year so we would ask officials to please assist the Board with this fundraiser, as any donation is helpful and appreciated by the student-athletes. Through your efforts, Board 28 has been able to provide multiple $500 scholarships for deserving seniors each year.
Once again this year, IAABO has committed its interest in supporting this cause. In turn IAABO is encouraging Boards to encourage their membership in participating/supporting the cause. The proposed idea is to ask officials to consider contributing 25% of one game fee during a week to be determined in January 2025. Cancer affects all of us in some way. Please consider donating to this worthy cause.
